Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 June 2026
PlugClose ("PlugClose", "we", "us") operates a community map that helps people find places to charge their phones and laptops. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices and rights you have. For data-protection purposes, PlugClose is the controller of your personal data.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, profile photo, and Google account identifier.
- Location. With your permission we use your device's precise location to center the map near you. We also use approximate, IP-based location to power "near me" features without a prompt.
- Content you contribute. Charging spots you add (place, coordinates, charging details, tags), ratings and reviews, and any photos you upload.
- Saved spots and preferences. Spots you save and basic app settings.
- Technical and usage data. IP address, device and browser information, and server logs used to operate, secure, and debug the service.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the map, search, and your account.
- To display community-contributed spots, reviews, and photos.
- To moderate content and keep the service safe and free of abuse.
- To send service emails (for example, when a spot you submitted is approved).
- To diagnose problems, prevent fraud, and improve the product.
3. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
We rely on: performance of our contract with you (running your account and the service); your consent (precise location and any optional emails); our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improving PlugClose); and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Public content
Spots, reviews, photos, and the display name on your contributions are public and visible to anyone using PlugClose. Please don't include information you wouldn't want shared publicly, and don't upload photos that reveal other people's private information.
5. Service providers we share data with
We use trusted providers ("processors") to run the service. We do not sell your personal data.
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
- Google — sign-in (OAuth).
- Geoapify — map tiles, geocoding, and place search; your IP address and map coordinates are sent to render maps and find places.
- Cloudflare R2 — storage and delivery of uploaded photos.
- Resend — sending transactional emails.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
7. Data retention
We keep account data while your account is active. Public contributions may remain visible after deletion of your account where needed to preserve the integrity of the community map, in de-identified form where practicable. Logs are kept for a limited period for security and debugging.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; restrict or object to processing; request portability; and withdraw consent at any time. EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local data-protection authority. To exercise these rights, email privacy@plugclose.com.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
10. International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside your country, including outside the EEA. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
11. Children
PlugClose is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
12. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
